One of the instruments of customs’ supervision over holders is the Register of Intellectual Property Objects, which is maintained by the Federal Customs Service on the basis of applications from the holders of exclusive Intellectual Property rights.

Protection of copyright holders
In order to ensure the protection of Intellectual Property rights when goods are circulated across the Russian border, it is possible to include information on such rights and goods in the Customs Register of Intellectual Property. For these purposes the procedure of official IP recording with the Customs Register is available. The correponding Register is run by the Federal Customs Service of the Russian Federation.
Information on trademarks, appellations of origin, copyright and related rights may be entered into the Customs Register.
If the Customs Authorities file a special petition based on an administrative offence with a court, this may result in imposition of a fine and confiscation of the entire batch of imported goods.
The term of a special remedy available through IP recording in the Customs Registers is established for the period specified by the IP holder in his application form, but may not exceed 2 (two) years from the date of IP recordal in the relevant Customs Register.
